“It was another exciting year for St. Katherine’s 43rd Annual Greek Festival! The wonderful sounds of live Greek music, the alluring aromas of rich deserts, slow roasted lamb, and all the Greek favorites made the weekend one to remember. Having had such wonderful support from our community, the festival community began an Annual Community Appreciation Donation last year, selecting a worthy non-profit organization to donate a portion of the festival proceeds to as well as offer a booth space at our festival for outreach and awareness. This year, we could not be more proud to offer our Appreciation Donation to The Children’s Hunger Project, an organization that does so much for Brevard County’s children! We are also very proud of our Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) who along with our Festival Committee, donated a portion of the festival proceeds and a portion of GOYA’s ministry fundraising efforts to The Children’s Hunger Project. We thank our Brevard County community for their continued support and look forward to giving back more and more year after year!
Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church traces its roots back to 1965 when nine Merritt Island residents sought to create a new Parish. By 1966 their charter was signed and approved by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese - Diocese of Atlanta, setting out a future for the Greek Orthodox Community in Brevard. From those early days, our Greek Orthodox community has grown to well over 200 families from across three Counties and as we plan for our future with an enlarged Community Center and landscaped campus grounds, we are also designing the Orthodox Garden Estate & Pavilion Chapel at Florida Memorial Gardens. Envisioned as a place of peace, rest and repose with built objects and landscape in conceptual and physical dialogue, it respects and represents our 2000 years of history in the most Orthodox of ways.”
